mouseIn a world where it often seems as though those who shout loudest get the most accolades, it can be daunting to even think of attempting to grow your profile and your connections by becoming known for something if that’s not your style. Rest assured, it IS possible.

I recently read a book where the expert sharing her knowledge on how to go from unknown to expert shared some really useful insights on how she has built her business and personal profile using social media and PR. However the most interesting part of the book to me was the fact that she is naturally introverted, and she shared her personal story of how she had to overcome her own natural prejudices about introverts being able to share the limelight with those more naturally inclined to go out and grab it.

If the thought of standing up and selling your wares in a room of 100 people makes you want to vomit, rest assured you are not alone. Public speaking is one of the greatest fears in the Western World. The exciting thing about all of the technology we have available to us now is that there are many other ways to get known, be found and stand out from the competition. The key element is you have to actually take action and DO something about it. Because while you are procrastinating over whether the article you have written is good enough to post on your linkedin profile, ten other people are posting away, getting read and moving ahead in the game of becoming known and sought after in their field. Here are three steps to help you move forward and start building the profile that will future-proof your career success:
  1. DECIDE: Make the decision that what you got you here won’t get you where you need to be in the future. Building a profile (online and offline) is a key ingredient in your future success.
  2. INVEST: Make an investment in working out what works for YOU. There are infinite ways to let people know who you are and what you do. To build and maintain an authentic and sustainable personal brand, you have to do it in a way that is enjoyable, has the ability to be leveraged and gets results.
  3. GROW: Just because you haven’t done something before doesn’t mean you can’t do it now. Personal growth is another key ingredient in your future success and this is the perfect opportunity to embrace it.
Being naturally introverted does not have to mean that you can’t build a highly successful profile in your chosen field. Make the choice today that what might be holding you back is actually what might make you stand out. Embrace your natural strengths and use them to help you get to where you want to be.
